Key takeaways
- August 24, 2026 updated contract bars transferring or pledging Amazon seller agreements, affecting financing options.
- Fuel and logistics surcharges raised fulfillment fees by 3.5% in the US and 1.5% in Europe from April 2026.
- Holiday peak fees add about $0.32 per unit in Q4, compounding total fulfillment costs by roughly 6%.
- New Selection Program (2026) offers instant fee credits capped at 10% referral fee for first 100 units.
- US and European fee structures differ significantly; a global fee model risks overstating European costs by over 2 points.
If you are looking for the Amazon seller program updates for August 2026, the short version is that August itself changed exactly one thing, and that one thing is a contract clause. It reaches your financing and your exit, not your cost per unit. The numbers that move your margin were decided on January 15 and April 17. The next one lands on October 15.
This page is the full list: what was announced, when it took effect, which stores it applies to, and what it costs. Every figure is written with the date it started applying, so you can check it against the rate card rather than against a headline.
What the Amazon seller updates of August 2026 actually were
August 24, 2026: transferring and pledging are now explicit
Amazon updated the Business Solutions Agreement on May 29, 2026, and the change took effect on August 24, 2026. From that date a seller may not transfer their rights or obligations under the agreement, and may not pledge them as collateral. Amazon lists these amendments on its changes to program policies page.
The previous agreement already required Amazon's written consent to transfer the agreement. The August wording goes further in two ways. It covers rights or obligations rather than the agreement as a whole, and it names pledging as a separate prohibited act.
Two things that used to sit in a grey area are now clearly on one side of the line:
- Selling the selling account itself. An asset sale, meaning brand, ASINs, inventory and supplier contracts, is a different transaction from handing over the account. Only the second one is caught by the clause.
- Financing secured against your Amazon payout. The restriction applies when a lender's security interest attaches to the disbursement before it reaches your bank account. In the United States that normally looks like a UCC filing that lists Amazon receivables as collateral.
What is not caught: loans secured by inventory, by general business assets, or by money already sitting in your bank account. If you have a revenue-based facility, the document to read is the security schedule, not the term sheet summary.
This change carries no fee and appears on no invoice, which is why most sellers read past it.
July 30, 2026: the FBA New Selection Program was replaced
On July 30, 2026 Amazon replaced the old New Selection Program with New Selection Program (2026). The benefit is no longer a rebate you chase afterwards. It is an instant fee credit applied at the point of sale on eligible new-to-FBA branded ASINs.
| Benefit | What it is | Where it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Referral fee cap | 10% on the first 100 units of an eligible parent ASIN, then 5% on the next 100 units, or your existing rate if it is already lower | Per new-to-FBA parent ASIN |
| Coupon credits | 50 dollars in coupon variable fee credits | First 60 days |
| Vine credits | 75 dollars in Vine enrolment fee credits, applied at the middle tier | First 60 days |
| Fulfilment and storage relief | Credits on fulfilment fees and free monthly storage on qualifying units | Eligible new ASINs |
The mechanic is unit based, not revenue based. If you have seen it described as a discount on the first 25,000 dollars of revenue, that is not what Amazon's own program page says.
The date to put in the calendar is October 31, 2026. Sellers already enrolled in the old program receive the 2026 benefits automatically for new branded FBA ASINs launched through that date. To keep the benefits on ASINs listed after October 31, you have to confirm enrolment before it.
The catalogue rules that landed either side of August
Three compliance changes were already in force when August started, and all three suppress listings rather than charge you:
- The 75-character cap on product titles, with Amazon rewriting longer titles itself if you do not act.
- The requirement to tag images containing AI-generated people with the keyword contains-synthetic-performer, in force since July 22, 2026.
- EPR registration checks extended to every EU country from August 12, 2026, where before only Germany and France were verified.
The Amazon fee changes in force after August 2026
August did not raise a fee. These did, and they were all already running when the month started.

Two details from Amazon's own 2026 fee update are worth keeping in mind when you plan. There are no new FBA fee types in 2026, so nothing on your settlement report should be a line item you have never seen. And Amazon gives at least 90 days of notice before a fee increase takes effect, which is the window you have to reprice.
The per-size-tier numbers are not reproduced here on purpose. Published summaries of the 2026 changes disagree with each other about the small standard-size delta, and a wrong number in a margin model is worse than no number. Read your own tiers off the 2026 US FBA rate card and the 2026 US FBA fulfillment fee changes page.
What the 2026 fee changes did not touch
US referral fee percentages were not raised in the 2026 update. If your referral cost per unit went up this year, the cause is upstream of the fee table: a category reassignment, a price change, or a variation that Amazon now evaluates on its own.
That last one matters more than it sounds. Under the 2026 rules several fees, including the low-inventory-level fee, are assessed per FNSKU rather than at parent ASIN level. A parent that looks healthy can contain a child that does not, and the charge follows the child. If you are seeing a charge you cannot place, why the low-inventory-level fee shows up with stock in receiving covers the most common version of it.
United States and Europe: same fee names, different numbers
This is where a single global spreadsheet usually breaks. The fee is called the same thing in both places and behaves differently.
| Item | United States and Canada | UK and EU |
|---|---|---|
| Direction of the 2026 base change | Up, average 0.08 dollars per unit from January 15, 2026 | Down, average 0.15 pounds or 0.17 euros per unit |
| When the base change applied | January 15, 2026 | Fulfilment fees from December 15, 2025, referral fee reductions from February 1, 2026 |
| Fuel and logistics surcharge | 3.5% from April 17, 2026 | 1.5% from April 17, 2026 for FBA, May 2, 2026 for MCF |
| Low-Price FBA threshold | Items under 10 dollars | Items at or below 20 pounds or 20 euros |
| Holiday peak surcharge | Average 0.32 dollars per unit, October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027 | Confirm on the European rate card for your store |
The European reductions were announced in Amazon's update to European referral and Fulfilment by Amazon fees for 2026, and the European surcharge in the fuel and logistics-related surcharge announcement. The current European numbers are in the Europe FBA rate card.
The practical consequence: a product that is marginal in the United States in Q4 can still be comfortable in Germany, and a landed-cost model that applies one surcharge percentage across all stores is overstating European cost by more than two points.
What this costs you per unit, end to end
Take one standard-size unit and substitute your own base fulfilment fee from the rate card. Here it is 5.00 dollars, purely so the arithmetic is visible.
- Before January 15, 2026. Base fulfilment fee, 5.00 dollars. No surcharge exists yet.
- From January 15, 2026. The 2026 rates apply. Across the catalogue the average move is 0.08 dollars per unit, so for this example the fee is roughly 5.08 dollars. Your tier may differ, which is why you read it off the card.
- From April 17, 2026. The 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies to the fulfilment fee: 5.08 multiplied by 1.035, which is 5.26 dollars.
- From October 15, 2026. The holiday peak surcharge adds an average of 0.32 dollars before the percentage surcharge is applied: 5.08 plus 0.32 is 5.40, multiplied by 1.035 is 5.59 dollars.
The unit you shipped in February costs 5.26 dollars to fulfil. The same unit shipped on October 20 costs 5.59 dollars. That is 0.33 dollars, or about 6%, and none of it is a price change you made.
The headline everyone quotes for peak is 0.32 dollars per unit. The number that actually hits the settlement report is larger, because the percentage surcharge is calculated on the peak fee, not on the off-peak one. We worked the full stack through in what Amazon FBA peak season fees cost in 2026 and in how the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge compounds.
Reported but not yet confirmed
Three items circulate in 2026 fee write-ups that we could not confirm against an Amazon page. Treat them as prompts to check your own rate card, not as inputs to a model:
- A Low-Price FBA discount of 0.86 dollars per unit in 2026, up from 0.77 dollars in 2025.
- The aged inventory surcharge starting at 180 days rather than the previous 270, with an added tier for inventory over 15 months.
- Per-tier fulfilment deltas for 2026. Published summaries contradict each other on the small standard-size figure.
What to do before October 15
- Read your security schedule. If any facility attaches to your Amazon disbursement rather than to inventory or to your bank balance, that structure is now outside the agreement as amended on August 24, 2026. Talk to the lender before the next draw, not after.
- Confirm New Selection Program enrolment before October 31, 2026. ASINs launched after that date lose the 10% and 5% referral caps unless you confirm.
- Reprice with the surcharge included, not on top. Model the fulfilment fee as base plus peak, then multiply by 1.035. Modelling it the other way round understates Q4 cost on every unit.
- Check fees per FNSKU, not per parent. A child variation can carry a charge the parent does not show.
- Pull the rate card once, in one file. The US and European cards are different documents with different numbers, and nothing about the 2026 changes makes them converge.
None of the August changes were a fee. All of them change a decision you make before Q4.
