What Is the Amazon Seller Central Fee in 2026?

What is the Amazon Seller Central fee? There is no single one: eleven separate charges reach your statement, each with its own rate and effective date.

39.99 USD

Professional plan subscription, per month

0.32 USD

average peak surcharge per unit, 15 Oct 2026 to 14 Jan 2027

3.5%

fuel and logistics surcharge on fulfillment fees, since 17 Apr 2026

Key takeaways

  • The Professional plan is 39.99 USD a month and Individual is 0.99 USD per item: Professional only wins from unit 41.
  • Peak fulfillment fees run from 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027 and average 0.32 USD more per unit.
  • The 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies to fulfillment fees, not to the sale price, since 17 April 2026.
  • FBA fees rose an average of 0.08 USD per unit on 15 January 2026, with no new fee types added for the year.
  • The digital services fee is 2% for UK established sellers and 3% in France, Italy, Spain and Canada, since 1 October 2024.

Every charge Amazon makes against your account arrives in the same place, which is why sellers ask what the Amazon Seller Central fee is as if it were one number. It is not. Eleven separate charges can land on a single unit, each with its own rate, its own base of calculation and its own effective date. This is the full list, with the figure and the date it applies from, so you can match each line on your statement to the rule behind it.

What the Amazon Seller Central fee actually covers

Seller Central is the console, not the fee. What people call the Seller Central fee is the stack of charges Amazon applies for selling in its store and, if you use FBA, for storing and shipping your units. Some are flat, some are a percentage of the sale, and a few are percentages applied on top of other fees. The order below is the order in which they hit a unit.

1. The selling plan subscription

Two plans. The Professional plan is a flat 39.99 USD per month regardless of how many units you sell. The Individual plan has no monthly charge and costs 0.99 USD per item sold. Those are the figures Amazon staff and its fee schedule language quote in the Seller Central discussion on the two selling plans. Amazon puts the crossover at 40 units a month. On the fees alone it is 41: at 40 units the Individual plan costs 39.60 USD against 39.99 USD, so Professional only wins from the forty first unit. Our breakdown of the Individual and Professional selling plans runs the comparison in full.

2. The referral fee

A percentage of the total sales price, which includes the item price plus any delivery or gift wrap charge the buyer pays. It is not calculated on your net. Rates are set per category: Office Products, for example, is 15% with a minimum referral fee of 0.30 USD per item. The minimum is category specific and higher in some handmade categories.

Two things sellers get wrong here. The percentage applies to what the buyer paid, shipping included, and the minimum means low priced units pay more than the headline percentage suggests.

3. Closing fees on media

Media categories (books, music, video, DVD, software, video games) carry a flat closing fee on top of the referral fee, quoted at 1.80 USD per item. It is per unit, not per order.

4. The FBA fulfillment fee

The pick, pack and ship charge, set per unit by size tier and weight. There is no single number: it comes from the fee table for your tier. What is official for 2026 is the direction. In its 2026 update to US referral and FBA fees, published 15 October 2025, Amazon said FBA fees would rise by an average of 0.08 USD per unit sold, "or less than 0.5% of an average item's selling price", effective 15 January 2026, with no new FBA fee types added for the year. Referral fees were not raised in 2025.

5. The holiday peak surcharge

Peak fulfillment fees apply again from 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027, for FBA, Remote Fulfillment with FBA, Multi-Channel Fulfillment and Buy with Prime. The increase over non peak rates averages 0.32 USD per unit, the same as the previous season, per Amazon's holiday 2026 announcement in Seller Central. It is not a separate line on your statement: it is baked into the fulfillment fee for those three months.

6. The fuel and logistics surcharge

A 3.5% surcharge calculated on fulfillment fees, not on the sale price, in the US and Canada, from 17 April 2026. Amazon puts it at about 0.17 USD per unit on average for US FBA, varying with size and weight. It stacks on peak rates, so in the fourth quarter you are paying a percentage of an already higher fulfillment fee. Our article on the FBA fuel and logistics surcharge walks through the calculation.

7. Monthly storage

Charged per cubic foot of daily average volume, billed in the month after it accrues. The peak rate for standard size units is 2.40 USD per cubic foot from October to December. Two separate add ons can sit on top: the storage utilization surcharge, which depends on the ratio between what you store and what you ship, and the aged inventory surcharge below. The full table is in our guide to Amazon FBA storage fees.

8. The aged inventory surcharge

Applied by how long a unit has been in the network, by tier. From 16 January 2026 the 181 to 210 day tier is 0.50 USD per cubic foot, and it climbs from there. This is the charge that turns slow stock into a monthly bill with no sale attached to it.

9. The inbound placement service fee

Charged when you send inventory to fewer locations than Amazon would choose, averaging 0.27 USD per standard size unit and 1.58 USD per large bulky unit. It is quoted at booking time as an estimate and reconciled later against what actually shipped.

10. The returns processing fee

Charged on returned units in most categories, and it arrives up to three months after the order. That delay is why it shows up as a charge in a month you already closed. We covered the timing in why Amazon charges a returns processing fee.

11. The digital services fee

A percentage applied on top of your Selling on Amazon fees, and in some cases your FBA fees, based on where your business is established and which store you sell in. Not on where your buyers are. Introduced on 1 October 2024, the typical rate is 2% for UK established sellers and 3% for sellers established in France, Italy, Spain and Canada. A UK established seller selling in the US store pays 2% on both Selling on Amazon fees and FBA fees; a Canada established seller pays 3% on Selling on Amazon fees.

One unit, end to end

Take a 25 USD standard size unit, Professional plan, FBA, US store, sold in November 2026:

  • Referral fee at 15%: 3.75 USD
  • Peak surcharge over non peak fulfillment: 0.32 USD on average
  • Fuel and logistics surcharge at 3.5% of the fulfillment fee: about 0.17 USD on average
  • Subscription, at 200 units a month: 0.20 USD per unit
  • Fulfillment fee itself: your size tier rate, which you read from the report below
  • Storage: 2.40 USD per cubic foot per month while the unit sits there

So 4.44 USD of that 25 USD sale is already named before the fulfillment fee and storage enter the calculation. On a 25 USD item that is 17.8% of the sale price, and it is the part that does not vary with how well you pack or how fast you ship.

Where to read your own numbers

Amazon names two tools in its own fee announcement: the Revenue Calculator and the Fee and Economics Preview report, both updated with the 2026 rates. Those are the only two places where the per ASIN figure is yours rather than an average. For what hits after the sale, the Monthly Storage Fees report carries the storage lines and the surcharges separately.

If you want the arithmetic per unit rather than per statement, our walkthrough of how to calculate Amazon FBA profit sets it out step by step, and what the Amazon seller account fee covers compares the two plans on cost alone.

What to do with this

Write the date next to every rate you use. Nine of these eleven charges changed, started or renewed inside the last two years, and a margin model built on last year's numbers quietly understates your cost per unit. Re-run the two reports above for the ASINs you are about to restock, not for the catalogue as a whole: the fees that hurt are concentrated in a few slow, heavy, frequently returned units.

โ€œIn 2026, FBA fees will increase by an average of $0.08 per unit sold, or less than 0.5% of an average item's selling price.โ€
