FBA Shipment Delivered but Not Checked In: What to Do

Your FBA shipment says Delivered but is not checked in. What the status means, how long Amazon takes, and when you can request an investigation.

2 to 30 days

Key takeaways

  • Delivered only means the boxes reached the building. Amazon quotes at least six days from delivered to received, and longer in peak.
  • You cannot reconcile a shipment that is still open. Reconciliation opens only once the shipment reaches Closed status.
  • Amazon closes a shipment when all units are confirmed or after it has been open for more than 90 days.
  • Reconciliation needs two documents: proof of ownership and proof of delivery, as PDF, JPG, PNG or TIFF. Excel and Word are rejected.
  • Once submitted, reconciliation usually takes 2 to 30 days, and up to 60 days for complex cases.

Your FBA shipment is delivered but not checked in. The carrier shows it arrived days ago, the proof of delivery is signed, and inside Seller Central the shipment still sits on Delivered with zero units received. Nothing in the account tells you whether this is normal or whether your stock is gone.

For the first week or two it is almost always normal. And the action that actually recovers units cannot be started yet, which is why opening a case on day three changes nothing.

What Delivered really means in the shipping queue

An FBA shipment moves through five states: In transit, Delivered, Checked in, Receiving, Closed. Delivered only means the boxes reached the building, or in many cases the yard outside it. Checked in means the trailer moved to a dock door. Receiving means units are being scanned. Only the last state, Closed, opens the door you actually need.

Amazon's own guidance on lost or delayed FBA shipments sets the floor higher than most sellers expect: a shipment "will need to be delivered, checked in, and received which will take at least six days, but often longer."

In a 2026 forum thread from a seller whose shipment had sat for two weeks, an Amazon moderator answered that it can take up to 10 days for shipments to move between those states, longer during peak periods, and stated plainly that Amazon cannot manually expedite the receiving progress for any shipment.

Why your shipment is stuck

Three causes, and only one of them is about volume.

  1. Fulfillment center volume. Amazon says delays cluster when a large number of shipments arrive at once, particularly during peak season.
  2. Your shipment. The same moderator reply lists labeling issues, unscannable barcodes and products not matching listing details as causes. These do not resolve themselves with time.
  3. Routing. Units may be sent on to other fulfillment centers closer to customers, so a shipment can stay in Receiving longer than the box count suggests.

Sellers also report that the unloading method matters. In a post about receive times, Scott Needham describes one seller cutting receive time from 24 days to 4 by moving from drop trailer to live unload. Amazon does not publish that comparison, so treat it as what other sellers report, not as policy.

The only clock that matters is Closed

You cannot reconcile a shipment that is still open. Amazon's guidance is explicit about when that changes: "After we have confirmed receipt of all units, or your shipment has been open for more than 90 days, the status will change to closed."

That gives you a ceiling. Whatever happens, the shipment becomes eligible within 90 days of staying open. Until then, Seller Support cannot speed up receiving and an investigation request will be refused as not eligible.

The fix, step by step

Once the shipment shows Closed, work the reconciliation process in this order.

  1. Open Shipments in Seller Central, find the shipment, click Track shipment and go to the Contents tab. That tab shows whether the shipment qualifies for investigation.
  2. Read the discrepancies. Check the Units located messages and the Status column on each product: Receiving, Action required, or Units located. No action required.
  3. For every line marked Action required, pick the matching option: Units not shipped, Research missing units, Extra units shipped, or Research extra units.
  4. Upload two documents, not one. Proof of inventory ownership is a supplier invoice showing purchase date, product names that match the missing items and quantity purchased. If you are the manufacturer, it is a signed packing slip with the packing list date, the shipment or purchase order ID, product names, quantity shipped and your signature or stamp. Proof of delivery, for LTL or FTL, is carrier documentation showing box count and total weight at pickup.
  5. Respect the file format. Amazon accepts non-editable files only: PDF, JPG, PNG or TIFF. Excel and Word documents are rejected, pro forma invoices are not accepted, and you are allowed to obscure prices.
  6. Describe the discrepancy in detail: box colour, size and markings, product codes, and any prep requirement that may have been missed.
  7. Preview, submit, and keep the case number. Amazon's step by step guide puts reconciliation at 2 to 30 days, and up to 60 days for complex cases.

This is not a reimbursement claim, and the difference costs money

Sellers lose units by filing the wrong thing. Under the eligibility windows in force since 23 October 2024, a manual claim for an item lost or damaged inside a fulfillment center must be filed no later than 60 days after it was reported lost or damaged. A customer returns claim goes between 60 and 120 days after the refund or replacement. A removal claim for items lost in transit runs 15 to 75 days from the shipment creation date.

None of those windows apply to an inbound shipment that was never received. That path is reconciliation, and it starts at Closed. If you want the full map of which claim belongs to which situation, see every FBA reimbursement claim and its window. If the shipment does close and units are still missing, the next step is covered in what to do when a shipment closes with units missing.

How to stop paying for the wait

The delay itself has a price even when every unit eventually arrives, because stock in Receiving is not sellable stock. Running out while your inventory sits on a dock is how sellers end up reading about the low inventory level fee with stock still in receiving.

Four habits remove most of the damage.

  • File the paperwork before you ship. Save the bill of lading and the supplier invoice as PDF the day the shipment leaves. A document you have to chase from a supplier three months later is the reason most reconciliations fail.
  • Diary three dates per shipment: day 6 (the earliest anything is abnormal), day 30 (time to prepare documents), and the close date.
  • Fix the avoidable causes. Labels that scan, listing details that match the box, prep that meets the requirement.
  • Count open shipments as capacity. Inventory on the way is already consuming your FBA capacity limit in cubic feet, so a stuck shipment quietly blocks the next one.

The shipment that says Delivered but not checked in is not an emergency on day three. It becomes one on day 91, when it closed, nobody looked, and the documents that would have proved what you sent were never saved.
