Key takeaways
- A product authenticity complaint is answered with supplier invoices issued in the last 365 days, not with a better letter.
- The invoices have to cover your sales volume for that period: a purchase made after the complaint does not count.
- A licence to sell or letter of authorisation does not prove authenticity, per an Amazon moderator in the Seller Forums.
- Appeal deadlines differ by notice: sellers report 17 days in some and 90 days in others. Use the one in your own notice.
- Listing Protection keeps the offer live during review for Account Health Assurance sellers in the U.S. by the end of 2026.
A product authenticity complaint does not ask you to argue. It asks you for paper.
An amazon listing deactivated product authenticity complaint lands as a Performance Notification saying the offer was removed after a buyer reported the item as inauthentic. The listing goes down first and the review happens after. What brings it back is almost never a better letter: it is a set of supplier invoices that trace the unit to the brand.
What the notice actually asks for
Sellers who post the notice in the Amazon Seller Forums quote the same list every time, and an Amazon moderator in that thread spells it out:
- Supplier invoices or receipts issued in the last 365 days.
- Quantities that reflect your sales volume over that period. One purchase made after the complaint does not count.
- The supplier's name, phone number, address and website on the document.
- Documents authentic and unaltered. Prices may be redacted, the rest may not.
- Accepted formats listed in the notice: PDF, JPG, PNG or GIF.
The same moderator is blunt about the document sellers reach for first: a certificate of authority, or a licence to sell, does not prove that the items are authentic. It proves you were allowed to sell them. Those are two different claims, and only one of them is being questioned.
Why it happens to sellers who did nothing wrong
Three causes show up again and again in the threads, and none of them require you to have sold a fake unit.
- The invoice does not reach the brand. You bought from a distributor, and the paper stops there. Amazon may contact the supplier to verify, so a chain that breaks one step short fails.
- The volume does not match. You sold 400 units and the invoices cover 60. The document is real and still does not answer the question.
- The complaint is about condition, not origin. A unit that arrived scuffed can be reported as inauthentic by a buyer who has no other word for it.
The fix, step by step
- Open Account Health and find the deactivation record for the ASIN. The notice tells you where the Appeal button is: next to the message on the Performance Notifications page, or on the Account Health page itself.
- Read the exact deadline in your own notice. Sellers report very different windows in different notices, from 17 days to 90 days. Do not take a number from a forum thread, including this one. Take it from your notice.
- Pull every invoice for that ASIN covering the last 365 days, and add up the units. If the total is below what you sold, go back to the supplier for the missing documents before you submit anything.
- Redact prices if you want. Leave the supplier's name, phone, address and website visible, and highlight the ASIN under review.
- Write the plan of action in the three parts Amazon asks for: root cause, what you have already corrected, what prevents a repeat. Keep the root cause honest and specific. Sellers in these threads report that plans blaming the buyer, the carrier or a competitor get declined.
- Submit once, complete. Several notices warn that a limited number of unsuccessful appeals can close the route, so a fast half appeal is worse than a slow full one.
What other sellers report, and what is not the procedure
One thread documents seven appeals declined within minutes with invoices and an authorisation letter attached. Sellers in that thread suspect an automated filter. Amazon has not published anything confirming that, so treat it as what sellers see, not as a mechanism. The same goes for the advice to change an All New offer to Like New when invoices cannot be produced: it is a seller workaround, not Amazon guidance, and it changes what you are selling.
How to keep it from coming back
The expensive part of this is that the clock starts when the complaint arrives, and the invoices take days to collect. The sellers who come back fast are the ones who already had them.
- Keep a rolling 365 days of supplier invoices per ASIN, with the supplier block complete, before anyone asks.
- Check that invoice volume tracks sales volume as you scale, not after.
- Watch the account health rating rather than the listing: the offer comes down first, the account follows if the pattern repeats.
What changes with Listing Protection
On September 29, 2026 Amazon described a programme called Listing Protection in its Accelerate 2026 recap. Claire O'Donnell, vice president of Selling Partner Trust and Store Integrity, is quoted saying that in most cases your listing stays active until Amazon issues a decision. It reaches all Account Health Assurance sellers in the U.S. by year end and the rest of the world in 2027.
That makes Account Health Assurance the thing worth qualifying for now. Amazon's own announcement sets the bar at a professional selling account, an Account Health Rating of 250 or higher for at least six months with no more than 10 days below that threshold, and a valid emergency contact number on file. Enrolment is automatic and free once you qualify. Six months of history means the rating you need in December is the rating you have today.
Two related cases worth reading if your offer went down for a different reason: compliance documents in review and an OTDR deactivation that hits the offer rather than the account.
โIn most cases, your listing stays active until we issue a decision, and your business keeps running while we review.โ
