FBA Removal Order Missing Units: How to Get Paid

FBA removal order missing units is the one FBA claim Amazon never pays automatically. The two published windows, the reports and the steps.

Key takeaways

  • Amazon has proactively reimbursed FBA units lost in its fulfillment centers since November 1, 2024, and January 15, 2025 in the EU.
  • The July 24, 2024 announcement excludes one category: all removal claims still have to be filed manually.
  • Removal units received damaged, different or incomplete: 30 calendar days from the delivery date (policy effective September 5, 2024).
  • A removal shipment lost in transit: no sooner than day 15 and no later than day 75 from the shipment ship date.
  • Amazon also published 60 days for all other removal claims on October 23, 2024, so file by day 30 and the argument never happens.

Your removal order reads Completed. The carton on your dock does not: 38 of the 61 units arrived, three tracking IDs go nowhere, and no reimbursement ever showed up in your account. Nothing is broken. An FBA removal order missing units is the one FBA inventory loss Amazon still expects you to claim by hand, and the clock on it is shorter than the one most sellers have in their head.

Why no automatic credit arrives for a removal order

Since November 1, 2024 Amazon reimburses lost FBA inventory on its own. The Seller Central announcement that introduced reimbursement automation, posted on July 24, 2024, carves out one category in a single sentence: "Additionally, all removal claims will still need to be filed manually."

So the credit that lands by itself when a fulfillment center loses a unit does not land when a removal order loses it. If you are waiting for it, you are waiting for nothing. In the EU the same policy started on January 15, 2025, with the same carve-out.

The removal claim windows, and the two numbers Amazon has published

Amazon has published the removal windows twice, and the numbers are not identical.

The claim window eligibility update effective September 5, 2024 is the granular one:

  • Damaged, different or incomplete (missing accessory or main item) units from a removal shipment received: within 30 calendar days from the shipment delivery date.
  • Lost shipment during removals: no sooner than 15 calendar days from the shipment ship date, no later than 75 calendar days.

The reimbursement automation announcement of July 24, 2024, effective October 23, 2024, phrases the same ground more loosely: a removal claim for items lost in transit can be submitted 15 to 75 days from the shipment-creation date, and "all other removal claims must be filed within 60 days of the shipment being delivered back to you".

Both pages are Amazon's. One says 30 days for a removal that arrives incomplete, the other says 60 for everything that is not a lost shipment. Treat day 30 as your deadline: it is the tighter published figure, and nobody wins an argument about which announcement applied.

The fix, step by step

  1. Pin down day zero. For a removal that arrived short or damaged, the clock starts on the delivery date. For a removal shipment that never arrived, it starts on the ship date and you cannot file before day 15.
  2. Pull the paperwork the day the box lands. Sellers on the Seller Forums point to two reports under Reports, Fulfillment: Removal Order Details for what you requested per FNSKU and the order status, and Removal Order Shipment Details for tracking IDs and shipped quantities. Those paths come from seller threads, not from an Amazon help page, so check the menu rather than trusting the route.
  3. Build the three-column count. Requested, shipped, received, per FNSKU and per shipment. A bulk removal comes back in several shipments and the order can read Completed while units are still moving, which is why the number that matters is per shipment, not per order.
  4. Photograph everything before you unpack. Carton, label, packing slip, and the units themselves if they are damaged or the wrong ASIN. A claim filed on day 28 with photos beats a claim filed on day 12 without them.
  5. File the case against the removal order ID, with the shipment ID, the FNSKU, the affected quantity and the images. Sellers report opening it through Seller Support under Fulfillment by Amazon, Inventory Removal Orders, as a removal order issue.

How to stop it happening again

  • Reconcile removals monthly, not when something feels wrong. The 30-day window is the whole reason: a quarterly review guarantees that a third of your removal losses expire before you look at them.
  • Split large removals. Sellers report that a 600-unit order spread across fulfillment centers comes back in fragments over weeks, each with its own clock.
  • Watch automatic removals too. When Amazon creates the removal order itself, after a compliance flag or on unfulfillable stock, the claim is still yours to file and the same clock is already running. One seller posted a formal claim over 542 units removed in error months after the fact.
  • Log the dates, not the cases. Shipment ship date, delivery date, day 30 and day 75. Everything else is detail.

If you want the full map rather than this one claim, our guide to every FBA claim window and the report that proves it lays them side by side, and what happens when Amazon loses inventory inside the warehouse covers the case where the automatic credit should have arrived and did not. For seller-fulfilled orders the clock is a different one again: see how long you have to file a SAFE-T claim.

โ€œAdditionally, all removal claims will still need to be filed manually.โ€
